Roaming Media watched the action unfold with this Male Leopard on a Warthog Kill. Sunsets are that much more special when they’re spent with this spotted species! We’ve had a few interesting sightings with this boy, but seeing his silhouette pitched against the purple sky of dusk made for some very lovely imagery.
It was entertaining to watch this young male try and manoeuvre the carcass to more comfortable eating positions. After several shifts he nearly dropped it right out of the tree. Finally, he secured it between two branches, fed a little then retired to the upper canopy for a little break.
It’s always awesome to see how at-home these cats are in the canopy. despite their impressive size. It’s amazing to watch them weave through the treetops, sometimes at great speed when they are pursuing prey.
As it goes in the bush, this sighting didn’t come without sacrifice. The stellar sunset was lost on the poor pig who found itself hoisted up a tree. But something always dies when the big cats feed. The cruel realities of nature are not for the faint of heart. To find beauty in the natural process is key to enjoying the show.
As usual, Africa on Foot and nThambo Tree Camp in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve deliver the goods.
