The worlds fastest land mammal is racing towards extinction.

In South Africa, cheetah have completely disappeared from the vast majority of their historical range. There are fewer than 7500 individuals left in the wild, making it Africa’s most endangered big cat. Isn’t it fantastic to know that organisations like The Endangered Wildlife Trust are working towards rebuilding the cheetah populations in areas where they were previously decimated due to human/wildlife conflict.

On commission for Sun Destinations, we got to go out tracking these marvellous predators with Donovan de Swart, general manager at Roam Private Game Reserve – in this video, he gives us the low down of their experience with the project.

Roam Private Nature Reserve is nestled in the Karoo, equidistant between Prince Albert and Beaufort West. This area used to be home to plenty of big cat species, but these were all historically eradicated by farmers and hunters.

Whether big or small, every animal has a role to play on our planet. This world is our RESPONSIBILITY to protect, but we can’t protect that which we don’t understand. Roaming Media strives to facilitate understanding, fostering community appreciation for wild spaces.

Wildlife Conservation is as much about people as it is about animals: educating and inspiring people to look for tangible solutions to environmental issues; raising awareness to social projects that empower people and minimise the likelihood of human/wildlife conflicts; provide support and draw public attention to the people and organisations on the ground trying to make a difference.
